PROJECT OVERVIEW
A world-class tennis destination designed to inspire participation, develop talent, strengthen communities, and elevate Burnaby as a national leader in sport and recreation.
The Western Canada Tennis Centre (WCTC) represents a transformative opportunity to establish one of Canada's premier tennis destinations while creating a lasting legacy for the City of Burnaby and the broader region.
As tennis continues to experience unprecedented growth across Canada, demand for accessible, year-round facilities has outpaced the available infrastructure. Despite the sport's increasing popularity and its proven benefits to health, youth development, and community engagement, Western Canada currently lacks a dedicated, large-scale tennis facility capable of supporting recreational participation, athlete development, major events, and inclusive programming under one roof.
The proposed Western Canada Tennis Centre addresses this need through the creation of a world-class, community-focused destination designed to serve players of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Located in Burnaby, the facility will provide year-round access to indoor and outdoor courts, high-performance training environments, community programs, youth development initiatives, wheelchair-accessible facilities, and spaces that encourage participation, wellness, and lifelong engagement in sport.
More than a sports facility, the WCTC is envisioned as a regional hub that strengthens partnerships between Tennis Canada, Tennis BC, the City of Burnaby, educational institutions, community organizations, and future generations of athletes. The centre will support grassroots participation while creating pathways for aspiring players to reach provincial, national, and international levels of competition.
The project will also deliver meaningful economic benefits through sport tourism, event hosting, job creation, and ongoing community programming. As a not-for-profit facility, surplus revenues will be reinvested directly into tennis development, outreach initiatives, and future facility improvements, ensuring long-term sustainability
and impact.
Through strategic investment and collaboration, the Western Canada Tennis Centre will become a landmark destination that reflects Burnaby's commitment to healthy communities, athletic excellence, and inclusive access to sport. It is an investment not only in infrastructure, but in people, opportunity, and the future of tennis in Canada.
The vision is simple: to create a world-class tennis destination that inspires participation, develops champions, strengthens communities, and leaves a lasting legacy for generations to come.
